St Petersburg theatres

  1. Mariinsky (former Kirov theatre) is the best in St Petersburg and equal to Bolshoi theatre in Moscow. The building of the theatre is of impressive exterior (you will see it during your tour) and beautifully decorated inside. However, the cost of the tickets is the most expensive in the city from $70 to $160 per person. The price is determined by the performance over a 12 step rating range. The rating is not a critique of the quality, it is based on the costs of the production, which often does roughly translate into quality because productions costs are influenced by who the conductor is, which principle dancers, set complexity and demand for tickets. As a result any given seat can have 12 different base prices plus variations in student and local resident prices. Therefore a question what they charge is best answered by saying: "depends", roughly $70 to $160
